Where have I been?

I feel bad for letting everyone down here, after graduation and immediately working full-time I felt swamped and pretty much let this thing go. However I feel bad for not keeping up the blog, and miss blogging about tech news and etc, so I'm going to make a serious attempt at keeping it up. Let's say it's one of my New Year's resolutions.

I need to figure out the direction of this blog again, since I don't want to keep it too broad, but I'm thinking electronics/internet/technology seem like the same place that this blog has always been and maybe I'll keep it there.

Anyways Happy New Year to one and all, and expect more of me soon.

It's done, I finally have High Speed!

After about an hour on the phone with Time Warner Cable, I finally managed to get internet directly to my apartment. It took a lot of going back and forth figuring if I was in the system, or how my landlord had the apartment listed as, but in the end it got done and here I am. The speeds for the Earthlink Cable (rebranded Time Warner) are pretty good, I'm getting 10mpbs down and 512kbps up, so that's not bad. As well, I'm splitting the signal, and I'm getting free basic cable. I also get some channels like ESPN2, MSG, Spike TV and the Food Network, but I'm wondering if I got a box I could get all the basic stuff.

I hopefully should be able to update the poor blog more, now that I have a stable connections, but hopefully all the stuff I do won't get too much in the way.

So yes I'm still alive, and sorry for the month long absence!

How is it this difficult to get internet in Greenpoint!

I'm stuck in Internet limbo, since Verizon's too far away from my house to give me any reliable connection and Time Warner's playing phone tag with me trying to service my house for cable, so I can get internet.

Therefore, I'm in Queens on my friend's laptop using the wireless. It's not my computer but I'm getting my internet fix at the moment.

I miss not being able to do my Payperpost so often, or report on news and opinions as they come out, so I feel like I'm being the curve a bit. Hopefully once I settle things with Time Warner I'll have a bit more posts up, but you never know with my busy schedule.

Problems with Spyware?

If anyone's used computers in the last couple of years then they must've heard or have experiences with spyware. I know I sure have, but if you don't know what spyware is they are little programs that install themselves on your computer to do various things. Most of the spyware out there doesn't do much in terms of terrible things to your computer, but they steal your system ressources which makes your computer slower, can install popup adds at random places and only allow you to go to sites you want.

What can you do to find out if you have spyware or to remove it? Well you need a spyware program to remove or kill it. Yea I'm around again

I'm back again for a couple of days in the city again. My internet sucks (what's new) or I haven't had access to some at all so the postings have been slimmer than I expected. However I have called Time Warner and am expecting some service from them soon.

So what does that mean in the mean time? You just get less rants (I mean news and opinions) from me.

However, tonight I do have a nice article for you guys. Any fan of Linkin Park will know who Chester Bennington is, and there's a really good article on Identity Theft on him. It was posted by Wired maybe a week ago, and I read it and I have to recommend it. It's pretty interesting to read about Identity Theft, especially of a star, and someone that people love like Chester.

My Verizon DSL experience

Yep, blogging from my house, with my DSL finally working. However, not all is sunny in Greenpoint, since my DSL is pretty shitty to tell you the truth. On Tuesday Verizon came in and redid the wiring of my house. Ok cool so that means it'll be ready by later tonight. Tuesday comes and goes, no DSL signal. Finally Wednesday and somehow in the evening I get signal. Woohoo I got signal! I start playing around, downloading, running a speed test showing I got 1900 kbps (out of my advertised 3000kbps) downstream with 360 kbps upstream so I'm like ok this will work. However by the morning I'm out of sync again. Luckily I had called Verizon sending in a DSL tech on Tuesday to fix my connection.

Thursday morning arrives, and so does the DSL tech (at 11:30am when I work at 12, but that's another story). He's like wow no wonder you're not getting sync you're 17,000 feet from the CO (the DSL central office, where the DSL originates from) and they're giving you the highest residential grade. I'd need to be within 10,000 feet for 3000kbps service or 15,000 feet for 1500 kbps, therefore I'm assed out. So he bumps me down to 768kbps/168kbps up/down, which I'm not too happy about but it means 10$ less per month so I'll take the hit. Later that night I was hitting 1500kbps tho so I was happy they didn't completely bump me down, but then I ran a speed test this morning and I wasn't surprised to see some nice low speeds of 184 kpbs / 124 kbps, meaning I had below my expected speeds but I had a steady signal.

So what are my options, well with me and my roomate sharing this connection (just installed a NETGEAR router), I have to get a decent connection, downloading files at 22kb/s won't cut it in this day, so I'm going to have to go cable. Cable however has to be serviced at my apartment, which is in the second story of a house behind an apartment building, and it's going to take 2-3 weeks. So I can't switch until then. My hope is that they service my apartment soon, so that by the time my 30 day trial with Verizon is up I can switch to cable and get anywhere up to 10mbps down and 512kbps up, which would be faster than my original speeds with DSL but I'd have to pay 45$ per month.

The trials and tribulations of Internet. Well, at least using crappy DSL is better than Tmobile EDGE. Alright enough for now, I'm going to bed.

You have to love The Police

Ah The police, what a great classic band, now who hasn't listened to a song from the police cd or something on the radio. I grew up listening to Sting and the police's songs, from Roxanne to Every Breath You Take, which is my favorite police song btw, it's really classic and nostalgic whenever you play a song from the police cd at home. My parents, you see, where really big Sting and by association The Police fans, in fact they went to go see them in 1980, which is before I was even born during one of their first world tours in Montreal. Of course I don't have a ticket stub but my parents have told me about it and it was easily of their most memorable concerts. I mean who wasn't in love with Roxanne at the time?

Well since they're reunited again and come out with a new compilation CD I guess their new world tour isn't out of place. I think it's great because I think it's the first time in years that The Police is coming to Montreal as the whole band. Sting made some appearances but never with the group after they broke up. They're going to be there at the end of July, so hopefully I'll be able to get my parents some tickets, since I'll be slaving away in NYC.

Looking for a hotel in Europe? Here's some tips

Having traveled around Europe with my friend a couple of years ago I got to experience a great number of sites and hotels, some good, some bad. I must admit we were younger and on a budget so we weren't living large however we did manage to find hostels using the internet or the word of friends who've traveled around before. The pitfalls of those methods is that sometimes these sites don't update their hotel lists, don't have telephone numbers, and can leave you without a place at a random time of night.

That's why now if I went back I'd take a look into a trusted name like Expedia or Orbitz. They have some nice listings for great places like Rome, Barcelona, Amsterdam, all the places I've been too, and it's nice because there can be some shady places in Amsterdam and you won't know until it's too late. Most of these online places have a map search for the area you want to stay in, specials on specific hotels, pretty much a good resource for hotel listings. They should all have plenty of listings on other cities but why not go with what's popular.

Some nice memorial day deals at Circuit City

Pretty boring day early on for me since I didn't have any plans like the beach or etc for my memorial day however it became a pretty good day after my friend dropped by. Right before he dropped by, I found out about Circuit City's memorial week sale where some video games were getting reduced to $9.99 such as Kingdom Hearts 2 and Fight Night : Round 3 along with Half-Life 2: Episode 1 going from $19.99 to $4.99. I literally went to 3 CC's in Manhattan to find me Kingdom Hearts 2, at $9.99 for the original non-greatest hits version it's worth it.

After that I came back, relaxed, and then went out to this dinner in South Williamsburg at 95 Broadway (can't recall the name of the place). I shouldn't say dinner since it looks cheap but it's actually a pretty expensive place, serving cheeses, fine wines, lamb, etc. I also had some Tasty D-Lite after, which is is this local Frozen Yogurt chain.

All and all a great way to wrap up this weekend, more news as the week pics up,

Memorial Day Weekend

It's actually really nice to have a long weekend every once in a while. I must admit I haven't done anything really productive yet I've been enjoying it pretty well. Yesterday went shopping, bought a new DKNY watch, bought some sheets, made a nice stir-fry at my ex-girlfriend's place, went out and then meet some girls at the bar.

May not seem very interesting to you guys but that's exactly how I want to spend my weekends, just relaxing, shopping and having fun. However next few weekends I'm going to have to work and study, so that's going to suck big ass.

Internet at work and free phone giveaway at Engadget

I'm making good on my promise to blog for two days in a row so here I am typing away. I'm finished work for the day, it wasn't too busy and we close at 1pm on Fridays so I get a nice early start to my weekends. I'm also using the computer of our secretary to blog since they have high speed and they're coming to install our high-speed on Tuesday, which cannot come fast enough.

Apart from that I did some minor bank stuff and went to school, pretty boring stuff but it had to get done.

More news from PPP - Payperpost Direct Launches!

Man, I wish I wasn't so busy at the moment so I could take in more fun with the guys at Payperpost. They seem to always have something new up their sleeve, especially with the new upcoming Birdo release they've released Payperpost Direct. It's a new concept from the people who allow to get paid for blogging when you'd do it anyway to cut out the middleman and get paid directly by the advertiser. For example, if an advertiser likes your specific blog, he can click on the badge (which will get installed tomorrow, see prior post) and pay whatever you think a post on your site is worth. This cuts out the man in the middle when your blog is directly generating the content and the sales lead.

I think it's another step in the right direction, I've seen other competitors of Payperpost do this but it seems that their prices where either way too high or too low. This seems to be more customizable and a better bang for the buck on both sides of the coin, us bloggers can charge what we think we're worth and advertisers can pay a nominal service fee instead of 50 to 100% of the post. It doesn't make sense to not do this if you have some specific blogs or places you'd like to target and you already know they're involved with Payperpost Direct. I think it also stimulates the bloggers to have higher quality content and to promote better, in order to get the right advertisers and visitors to the site, making it more attractive and raising the price you could charge.

I'm all for it, and will install this tomorrow, what you guys think? Who's doing it or not? Speak your thoughts.

Verizon DSL needs to hurry up!

I'm sorry for the pause again in the blogging. My verizon DSL is coming Tuesday, and it's terribly hard to blog from my phone. Sure it gets on the internet but EDGE is so slow and having 2 or 3 things load at the same time kills my speeds. The fact that I've been so busy with my new job and the extra jobs I've been doing on the sides doesn't help.

To all those who are still there for me, I appreciate the support. I just wish I could keep you guys informed on what's going on with me, or what I think about anything in the Tech world more often however I've just been so busy. I also have been dealing with HP in terms of repairing a broken laptop, so that's another story I have to tell you guys, but until then I'll give u guys an update on my friends at PPP and I'll have a blog post tomorrow when I get to access some decent internet at LIU (my old school which is a 10 min walk from my job).

PayPerPost HDTV Tuesday's

I haven't heard anything new from PayPerPost in that last little while since I've been so busy graduating and finishing track while moving into Greenpoint (see previous post) I haven't checked in with Ted and the gang at PPP. Well whenever they're not trying to get more ads on blogs for us posties they're busy organizing contests to keep us busy. They've launched an event every Tuesday called HDTV Tuesday's where you cna win all shows of great prizes, such as Apple TV's, PS3's, and the grand prize and HDTV at the end of the month.

That's pretty spectacular, since they're already hooking us up with oppertunities, money for blogging and now we can earn prizes for just blogging to make money and getting lucky. I have to give out a shoutout to the guys at Bid4Prizes.com for making all this possible. I've spoken about them a week ago so check out my post and go visit them if you have the chance. Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY, USA

Yes I'm blogging from my new apartment in Greenpoint, unfortunately this is tougher than usual since I have to use my valuable and trusty T-mobile EDGE data connection through my phone.

I live off McGuinness Blvd, and I must admit I love the area my place is in, it's very open, clean, non dingy and accesible by car and bus/train pretty well. I think I might not be able to get DSL, which would suck since it's only 14.95 a month for the 1st year. I can deal with that price for internet but would hopefully avoid $30 a month then 40 after 6 months.

Apart from that I've been working and settling into things, we'll have to see how much I like things in a couple of weeks after I become fully intergrated into the workforce. I'll have a set schedule so I'll be able to blog more.

Another concept, Lowest Bidding site for prizes

There's a lot of sites out there that give away prizes, some for referrals, some for playing games, but here's one with a new twist. It's called bid4prizes, and you can win a prize by bidding the lowest amount on a prize. It's like a guessing game, where you bid on prizes, and they tell you if you're low, high and etc. You have certain amounts of points which allows you certain amounts of bids on the prizes, which are ad-supported to keep the guys afloat. However for $9.99 you can get an unlimited membership and have unlimited bids, which can be worth while.

So far I think it's pretty interesting, maybe tedious trying to outguess everyone, but imagine winning a BMW 3 series (my friend has one, they are some fine cars) off the internet? Sounds like something that could entice a good number of you guys. I'm going to give it a shot and hopefully get back to you. Anyone else try it? Any opinions? Post your thoughts!

It's all over!

I had a post that I had kept in my drafts where I was debating the fact on whether I should apologize or not for long spaces between posts. After looking back at the posts, which I started writing April 27th, I realized that I shouldn't make excuses for my absence, but instead just explain how things are going and how I want to change them.

I'm finally done with school, yep, no more exams, lectures, reports, paperwork, FINISHED. I'm also done running for LIU. I haven't really been updating my blogs due to the enormous amount of work and things I've had on my plate. Hopefully, and I really hope to stick to it, will keep working on the blogs since I've come to enjoy my time blogging and the community that has followed my blog, from the Posties at PPP to everyone coming from Blogspot, or school.

So from now on it's up to me to keep this going, no excuses, no long pauses, just blog posts, tech reviews, and the occasional PPP stuck in the middle :)

I love having a tech blog, I get to review tons of new things that I think might be of interesting, well at least to me. Today I'm looking at one of the competitor's the crown of ZIP file utilities for Windows called SecureZIP - The next generation of ZIP. It's from PKWare, the guys who made one of the original ZIP utilities for DOS. Most people know about ZIP files, that you can archive and compress information, but the thing is that now ZIP files can safeguard important information with strong passwords. That's pretty sweet and since SecureZIP integrates with Microsoft Outlook and Windows very well you can protect all your sensitive data, even the ones you email to others.

The best part about it is that SecureZIP is FREE for a limited time, all you need to do is simply provide your email address to their site and you'll receive the download link, no spam or nothing. I think it's better than having WinZip's messages annoy you all day. I've downloaded it and it's quick, easy to use and free. Can't really go wrong with that.

I love being a graduate student

Unfortunately for me, I'm a busy college student with 2 jobs, clinical obligations to finish up, and I still run track and field for a Division 1 NCAA school. What does that mean? It means little to no free time for blogging. My last post before tonight was on my other blog from Wagner College in Staten Island while I was waiting for the Lacrosse team, that's how little free time I have.

I've been neglecting my personal blog at dasnipe.atotchat.org for quite some time now. I have had thoughts and other serious things going on in my life. Hopefully tomorrow night I'll have the time to sit down and get in some quality blogging time before my race.

Until them I'm just going to eat my Chinese and relax. Maybe I'll download Ubuntu 7.04 and give it a whirl, we'll see tomorrow.

Interesting concept - Turn your Flickr photo's into cash

I like how new Web 2.0 sites and existing one always seem to find different niches or populations of users. I know some photography heads so when I heard about this new site, FlickrCash, which is the intergration of Flickr and eBay, I was immediately interested. It's got some pretty cool options, nice galleries of pictures on a particular subject, a good search engine to find specific photos, and options to "heart" or "hate" an image to remember later. Like take this gallery on Orange Flowers - found by FlickrCash, you get pages of full galleries with all kinds of pictures, it'll be easy to find any picture you want.

Seems like a great idea to me, check it out and let me know what you guys think.

LONG weekend - Xbox 360 news

Sorry for the last of posts between Friday and today, I've unfortunately been busy at track meet, work, school, and all the other things affecting my life right now. There not much going on today with the shooting of the 32 students at Virginia Tech. My sympathies go out to the all the victims and friends/family of those unlucky to be there that day. I'll speak more about it on the other sports blog.

Back to gaming news, a rumour has been confirmed for the Xbox360 that when the Xbox 360 Elite will be released that Gamestop will have a special trade-in offer for those who have older Xbox's.

I'm in between my classes and I'm stuck in the computer lab yet I want to be able to login to my MSN and my AIM messengers but I can't since the computers here don't have the clients. Am I stuck? Nope, because of Web Messenger websites like KoolIM.com which have come along allowing you to signin from any Internet Browser window. That's right I'm on a locked down computer yet I can still sign into MSN, AIM, Yahoo, ICQ, etc. It's simple and easy, so check it out.

Funny headline from Joystiq : GTA 4 Drops Staten Island, Wu-Tang Response Unknown

I know most people who aren't associated with video games or rap won't get the headline, but the new Grand Theft Auto game, GTA IV, which is coming out in October from Rockstar Games, is portrayed in New York City which has been renamed Liberty City. In their rendition of NYC, they've kept and renamed 4 boroughs and even included New Jersey. However they left Staten Island out, which prompted the headline.

I'm going to need some blinds for my apartment

Yep if any of you guys have been following the blog you may have noticed, or not, I didn't exactly scream it out, that I've been looking for an apartment. It's been kinda tough, my real life has been coming in the way, a roommate has backed out of an agreement, which complicates things when looking for a room, and etc.

However I have to also keep in mind I'm getting an unfurnished place, and finding furniture and things for the apartment is going to be tough. I have been looking at little things like tables, couches, etc, but I really have to think about other things such as blinds and things guys don't normally think about. Do I want venetian blinds, regular blinds, Ikea bamboo blinds, curtains? Tough choices ahead if I'm going to have to furnish a house. The site I mentioned above, Terry's Fabrics, has a bunch of stuff to look at to setup a decor, I'm going to have to look at it more, but it seems pretty interesting.

Free ORION Windows Event Log Reader Software

Can't go wrong with free software, and this for the IT crowd, especially the Network Administrators out there who are always looking to managed their servers. There's some free ORION Remote Windows Event Log Reader software out there for you guys, if your processing volume is under 5 events a second. What does this software mean? It's a useful tool that monitors your Windows System Events can be can automatically be forwarded to Syslog Servers, email, SNMP, or written to databases in real-time, keeping track of your server and specifically what's going wrong with it. For those with much more servers or higher processing volumes it can be upgraded for a month-to-month subscription for $12.95/month for 15 events/sec (don't worry non-tech's, Network Administrators know the figures) so it isn't too expensive for those with large networks as they'll easily pay more for other software. More North Carolina computer usage

Still stuck in North Carolina, but I managed to creep into Duke and use a computer in their cafeteria area that someone left logged on. I didn't run well today but that'll be for a lengthier post on my other blog (My Sports one, check it out at Steve's Sports and Travel) but in the mean time I'll talk about a controversial issue (DRM) and how they're always working backwards in trying to fix it.

Remember how DRM was cracked back in December (blog post HERE) , well Corel, the makers of WinDVd, have released a patch that forces users to patch their software to their latest version or not be able to play any AACS (DRM'ed) Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. This was reported on Engadget but it's still such a rotten deal, forcing people to patch their software or not. This is the way of DRM, and they'll never win, however Corel loves to stick it to users. I think I'm with the majority in that DRM will never win, but that's just me, I'm no Hollywood studio.

Sticking to Music - Find publicity on Unsigned.com

Was just browsing through my MySpace while at the hotel, and noticed some more bands trying to get my attention. Sure it may be nice trying to grab my attention there, but I'm really not going to listen to you on MySpace nor are you going to stand out on MySpace compared to the multitude of other bands. I say be out there, try new or different sites or methods, and for me a site like Unsigned.com looks like another bands should try. You can be in any musical group, solo, duo, where it be from Rap, Hip-Hop, Electronica all the way to Grunge Artists Unsigned.com could be the launching point of your career. All it takes is one music executive to like you to get noticed and then you're off.

Apartment Search in North Carolina

Hey, nothing tech news related today, since I'm in North Carolina and I haven't been able to Digg or browse Engadget as much as I'd like too. I'm using the computer in teh business center, which has the usual high-speed and a printer. The funny thing is that even thought I'm on the road I'm still focused on my apartment hunt. I'm moving out in May and I've been hitting up Craigslist and other listings trying to find apartments, accepting calls on the road, etc.

Looking to make some new investments? Try Futures

Since I'm a college student, I may not have much saved away at the moment in terms of investments for my eventual retirement. However I do manage the portfolio of my dad since I do his taxes and it's pretty interesting. He has a 401K from work, which is pretty standard, and some general savings bonds along wtih a regular RRSP from work and some mutual funds. Nothing exciting and pretty basic. I wonder if he needs to diversify his investment options, more stocks, or gold, and something new I've heard of, Futures. Some people are talking about global futures as a new investment form that could help diversify many portfolios and help him out. As well the initial investment in futures can start at around $250 so it doesn't take too much to get started.

Sounds like some interesting options, I'm going to forward the information to my dad, and maybe you guys could find out something new too.

Keeping Windows up to date

It just seems that no one will ever keep their computer secure unless Microsoft forces them too, which is pretty amazing considering what most people think about computers. I just borrowed a friend's laptop, which is running Windows XP SP2, yet somehow doesn't have Internet Explorer 7 installed and no other browser. How could you only have IE6? No Firefox, no tabs? I guess I've just been spoiled by my computer.

Do you guys often the same thing when using other people's computers? Are you like why do you turn off the automatic updates when you won't update yourself?

Just makes me wonder sometimes,

I may not be the greatest audiophile, but I know that a lot of musicians here in Brooklyn are always trying to get discovered or get signed by record labels. Instead of doing what every band does and try to only promote through MySpace maybe they should try the new tools at Music.com. The whole Musicians Wanted at Music.com - Get Discovered program is really enticing, where you can sign up for free, upload the music you've already made, and make some money off it. You can have a full website on Music for your band, a blog, an artist profile with band member profiles if you wish, photos, event calender or show listings and more. Music.com will even select some bands for more promotions as well, so it seems like a get venue to get your bands name out that. The more people who know about your music the better right?

Ever wanted to get something on Craigslist or another online classified service and gotten no information and crappy pictures? Well there's a new service out there that I think shows actual promise that is an online marketplace focused on Video Marketing. Selldeo.com lets users create videos of an apartment they're trying to sell, which is a great idea. Imagine selling an apartment and being able to view all the rooms? Or selling a car and seeing all 4 sides, the interior, etc? Seems like it could really take off since it can save the seller time by answering less questions and give more information to the buyers. I think it has great potential to be up there, it's kind of new so let's see how it turns out.

Wow - Steve Jobs convienced EMI to drop DRM

I guess peer pressure does work, since everyone has been clamoring for labels to drop the Digital Rights Management (DRM) for a long time I guess they just only finally now start listening to everyone someone has done it, EMI has dropped DRM. I don't buy much music myself, since I'm not the biggest audiophile, but this is a step in the right direction. I've only read clips in the free newspapers (AM Newyork and Metro) but there's a really good article on one of the Ars Technica Blogs. It's from the Infinite Loop blog, and it speaks about how Ditching DRM was EMI's idea.

Very interesting read, and something to think about, since it goes onto more than just DRM but the whole Apple iPod/iTunes experience. Check it out and post your thoughts.

Mortgage companies getting battered on the stock exchanges, maybe looking into mortgage refinancing isn't a bad idea?

There's been a lot of talk on the loans and mortgage companies taking hits in the stock markets, which could be lower rates on your loans and mortgages. I'm not a homeowner yet, just barely looking into apartments for May. I don't have to worry about having a Mortgage yet since I don't have the dream house I'm looking for. I also wouldn't live in New York, it would have to be some place closeby like Connecticut, where you can find some deals on Connecticut Mortgage Refinancing with all the lowered rates.

Now this is cool, streaming live replays and stats to your PSP while watching Arsenal Play

If any of you love going to sport events, playing PSP, or love Arsenal (I fit into all 3 categories) then this bit of news from Pocket-Lint will interest you. The full article at Pocket-Lint states that Sony is beginning a plan to stream live football/soccer replays directly to your PSP. Now that's some great technology. Imagine missing a goal while you were getting a drink, or wanted to see if that penalty was really a foul or not, and see how many goals Thierry Henry has scored.

They're testing the technology at Emirates Stadium (the home of the London based Arsenal Football club) with about 4000 fans but I hope it gets around, and makes the jump across the pond into North America.

Midday roundup

Just got in from work, and quickly went to my favorite quick news site Digg, and found 2 articles for you guys to enjoy. Not much going on in life or electronics, tech or the web so I'll talk about Video Games and Guns.

The first link is the annoucement that Sonic and Mario, mascots for the longtime rivals Nintendo and Sega, are now teaming up to compete in a sports game for the 2008 Olympic games. Wiifanboy.com has all the details but hey, it's a start, now let's see them go head to head in a fighting game.

The second link is for a program setup in Mexico where you trade your handgun for an Xbox360. Pretty interesting concept, getting guns out of the streets and more consoles out there. It's starting in Mexico City but will spread to other cities in Mexico. I like the idea, imagine if they did that in the US?

Sorry about the sporatic updating over the last couple of days, life has been crazy, and I don't think it'll calm down until the semester is over for me. I haven't been talking much about things going on in my life on all three blogs but hopefully I'll get some time tomorrow night to set things straight.

In the mean time, I'll set you guys up with some nice reading about how FreeConference.com, the site that offers free conference calling from it's 712 area code in Iowa, is Sueing ATT for blocking access to the number. This is impacting me as I used to use Futurephone.com before the ATT ban shut it down, so that'll be interesting to see.

Also in other news, well it may not be news to some, but a reader on the Payperpost Boards linked me to an article on how 77% of the blogs on Blogpost.com are spam and how this is broken down by provider or host HERE. Nice article if you're serious blogger.

I want to be able to buy a house

My best friend back home has a house with his brother and his Mortgage Company gave him a pretty great rate, he only has a mortgage for 9 years, and it's been 4 already that he's been there. I wonder if a home loan would be about the same price for him or more, since he didn't pay too much for the house, around $100,000. If I could get a cheap mortgage like that in New York, there's no way I'd hesitate and instead I'm stuck looking for apartments on Craigslist. Home loans are so cheap in places like Maryland that getting a Maryland Mortgage I would move down there if I had a job like I have here. Well wish me luck, since I'm getting booted from LIU in 2 months.

I love T-Mobile

Of all the phone companies, I think T-Mobile's my favorite company, by far. Especially at times like this when I don't have my usual dorm connection and it's 11pm and I want some internet. For those who haven't followed my blog I use the T-Mobile 5.99 internet for WAP sites and use it as an EDGE modem through the T-Mobile proxy. If you're looking for a guide I suggest trying the Howardforums T-Mobile section. I might put up a guide on my website sometime but right now I'm way too busy.

Back to T-Mobile, I like the direction they're going, their phones are getting better, prices are great, and service is improving. I just would like to see more phones released per quarter but I get all my phones by other means so it don't really matter to me. What's your thoughts on T-Mobile? They suck or are they good?

Black Singles dating site review

I cover most aspects of the internet, and something that is very popular is that people are trying to find love online. I've seen sites for single parents and for people looking for a sugar daddy (search Archives) but today I'm going to do a quick review of a new site called BlackScene. It's as you guessed by the name a Black Dating that's pretty new. I've reviewed the site with the help of a friend (who is black to get the views of the site from all angles) and while we think the quality of participants isn't up to par yet, the site has potential. The user interface is pretty nice and easy to use, along with being free to join. Seems like they really could do something with it. They just need to get the word out to more diverse people, as having 26yr old mothers with a long tongue isn't very attractive.

Orb works now for Wii, PS3 and Xbox360

I love Engadget, since I can't get enough of gadgets, and today I've found out that a favorite program of mine, Orb, is now compatible with all the major next-gen consoles. For those who don't know what Orb is, it's a streaming application that allows you to stream or access pictures, music, videos from your home computer on your cell phone or another computer through a stream.

Now since it's been updated you can use Orb with the next gen consoles, that's right, your Wii, Xbox360 or PS3. Sure that may be trivial for most users but imagine just plugging in your xbox, and playing your videos at your friends house? Imagine the possibilities with that?

Pretty crazy pictures, furniture from weapons

I'm going to go a little off course today to a little gem I found on Digg, yes there's news there that people haven't seen that is pretty interesting. It's a link from the Freshome.com blog, and it shows pictures from Cambodia, a country torn by 30 years of civil war, but not just any pictures. The pictures featured here are furniture that are made out of old weapons, gun barrels, etc. Some very nice furniture and great ideas. Here's a pic of my favorite

New Black Xbox360 Announced!

Just hot off the presses at our favorite Tech blog Engadget is the announcement of a Black limited edition Xbox360. Without further adieu here's the pic.

Updated features include (quote from Engadget

* The Elite will be limited quantities only; that may be as much or as little as a couple hundred thousand.
* The case, controller, and Live headset will all be black. It will have all new packaging.
* Elite will cost $479, and will be a 3rd SKU; it will be sold alongside Premium and Core packs.
* Eventually Elite hardware (in white plastics) will take the role of the Xbox Premium. That is to say, after the Elite is launched and sold out, future Xbox Premiums will have 120GB / HDMI.
* We do not yet know exactly when 120GB / HDMI will become the standard for Premium, but it is loosely estimated to be late summer or fall.
* Elite models run cooler than normal 360s, but they are not yet confirmed to have 65nm chips.
* Prices may remain the same with the 120GB / HDMI hardware upgrade in the Premium Xbox, but we may still see a price cut on the line when 65nm chips start shipping.
* The HD DVD drive will not be internal or bundled -- Microsoft never did or nor does not currently have plans to put an HD DVD drive in the 360.
* There are no current plans to integrate WiFi into the Elite or future Premiums (although that can always change).

Verizon Wireless has been stepping up lately

I've been overlooking Verizon's lineup of phone lately, since I have quite a few friends on their service and being the knowledgeable tech guy around I get asked a lot of questions. Usually when they ask me about phone for Verizon, I shudder, since until recently most of verizon's phones have been either very business oriented or mom and pop oriented, with of course a black leather case to protect it. Now those things have changed with Verizon's new phones. After browsing Wirefly's wide selection of phones and plans, I'm actually liking the look of the Red Chocolate, almost as slick as the black, but since everyone has the Black it gets kind of old. Of course Verizon's also got the new KRZR, the enV (LG VX9900) and regular RAZR's in all colors so they have been stepping up their lineup.

I mean it has be great when you can get a Chocolate online for FREE after rebates and activation, right? Well look no further than Wirefly if you're trying to get on that deal. The rate plans are pretty reasonable, and pretty much on par with most other carriers. So if you're looking for a new phone or service, check them out, Verizon's changed, and you can get some decent phones from them now. I may disagree with the Verizon guy TV commercials, but I have to admit the enV is nice, and 3G with CDMA is nice, broadband speeds on your phone is awesome.

I'm really liking the Cowon D2

I just saw on Engadget that the Cowon D2 has been released in the US. It's actually some nice Korean technology that if they could market it right can compete with the Zune or iPod for marketshare. Look at the pic below,

Isn't it beautiful? It's got really great features too

-2.5" Wide Touchscreen
-2gb/4gb flash with SD slots
-52 hours battery on MP3, 10 hours on Movie mode
-Support for all the major formats including Ogg, FLAC

Tower Defence Games - You guys try them out?

I was browing around the internet earlier on my great connection here at the Ramada Inn and was looking at the different genres of games. A genre that I wasn't familiar with that's pretty popuplar amoung a specific subset of games is Online Tower Defence games. It's actually a good idea but I haven't tried it out really. They're a lot of sites with great Tower Defense Ideas and they are pretty interesting. I think I'm going to give them a shot when I get back to a REAL internet connection, aka my computer.

Facebook and March Madness

It's nice when major social networks do something for a change. Facebook has been really good at organizing March Madness brackets for it's users. They have it setup so that pretty much anyone can create a pool, setup their own bracket, and this year they set it up so that everyone participating has a chance to win it all again Facebook's thousands of users. I'm rank 135,000 so far, but in my brackets I'm 3, 5th and 6th, so I'm not doing too bad at all.

Yep I'm using the computer in the lobby, it's so much faster than my EDGE connection when I want to load more than just webpages.

I know many of you guys have heard about Vonage before, it's been on TV, it's all over the internet and it's a based on a relatively new technology called Voice Over Internet Protocol. Vonage uses this to provide you phone service over your internet line for MUCH cheaper than regular phone companies. The guys at Vonage forum have tips, news, reviews and more for those who have Vonage, are interested in Vonage and can help you out. It's a great resource for Vonage and I suggest you check it out if you're in any of those categories.

My wifi here sucks part 2

Yep the wifi here is so bad that the whole network is down. I'm reduced to blogging from my cell phone EDGE connection. Thank god for it. There's not much going on with me right now, just had practice, browsing facebook, watching the NCAA tournament and enjoying life in Miami.

Someone find me a hotspot or a decent connection in Hialeah, FL, and I'll love you.

Man the hotel WiFi sucks here!

I'm just relaxing in the hotel tonight, nothing to do after my track stuff, watched a bit of basketball on TV and then I stole my friends laptop to keep myself entertained.

I love the fact that hotels now have WiFi pretty much everyone you go. It's universal now which is great for someone like me who during track season travels every weekend but along with that WiFi in hotels needs to be done right.

Here's a few tips

1) One router won't cut it for a large hotel, you need to spread them out a little
2) Invest in more than the basic Cable/DSL package if you're going to get it for your hotel. You may have a large amount of laptop users at any time, and giving them crappy access may make them think twice about coming back.
3) Don't share the internet connection that management/reception uses with the WiFi network, that's just asking for trouble.

Any other tips you guys can think of? Share your thoughts on this? any really great hotel WiFi experiences?

They ust have started a high score contest which could mean free money or an ipod for you guys, so I thought I might share some info on the contest. Rumble on the PS3 - God of War 2 release

If you've played the original God of War for the PS2 then youll know how good that game was and you've been waiting for the release of God of War 2. Well that day has come today but with that annoucement that the PS3 will have a new controller with Rumble confirmed on Joystiq. This is good new for you PS3 owners, or those like me who are thinking of getting one in the future.

By the way, I'm holding off on my next-gen console purchases, since I just got another slim ps2 and I got all the games I need on it.

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of updates. I've been in Miami for Spring Break since Saturday, and Thursday/Friday last week were really crazy days. That's why I haven't been up to date with the tech scene, even with the Game Developer Expo and the PMA (Camera Maker) show going on.

Since I've been missing, I should show you guys a scoop that Engadget has, on a new phone that's yet to be announced or released. It's the SonyEricsson K850i, and it's got a nice 5mp camera, UMTS-3G, 640x480 front video camera, usual other specs. Here's a pic, nice isn't it?

Yep I'll try to post more this week, it's tough without my computer, stealing laptops isn't always fun.

This one is from a large retailer in the field, RugsDoneRight.com, and it's pretty new, which is interesting to see a blog about rugs, since I don't know much about them. It's not a bad blog, with links and articles that actually should interest the rest of us, such as this post about how Static from area Rugs can harm your computer. Most people know that there's static from carpets but some people still sit their computers on theirs. Mine's NEXT to a rug but not on top, hehe, since I need all my hardware grounded. Blog Review: Overtime

I know I'm reviewing a Sports blog (I mentioned it before on my sports blog) but I haven't done a Blog Review in a while and I'm looking to do a nice exchange for both parties, why not a little link love can't hurt right :)

Overtime is a blog from a fellow Montrealer by the name of Frank and as you can probably guess from the title, it's focused on sports. He has a great variety of sports topics, from boxing to hockey and random sports happenings. I like his use of colors and his writing is very professional and clear to understand, unlike mine where I merely write down quickly whatever flows out of my head.

I know it's tough being a single mom, I've heard the stories, and they're trying just like everyone else to find a good man but ti's tougher because many men don't want to deal with the fact that they have a child. Well now there's a site for them, it's called Single Moms and Dads. They can find people who understand them and want them for who they are. Sounds like a better method than Craigslist.

I know I talk a bit about money from time to time, who doesn't? Even if I'm a student I still find it hard sometimes to manage things, and I'm thinking of post-graduate school, so maybe I might have to do something about paying for it. I think taking out something like a secured online loan might be an option, since I have a job I can pay it off. I would take a Mortgage if I had a home, since everyone seems to have one and a small mortgage can't last for that long. There's a lot of types of loans that I could apply for, so maybe I'll do that. These guys got a bunch over there in the UK, can give you a great idea of what to look for.

I think taking a loan to go to school is great if it's not of a great amount, since some people I know only go to school on loans, which is crazy. Hopefully if I go back I'll have a scholarship or some decent financial aid, but we'll have to see.

Alright enough money talk, it hurts, lol,

Mondays!

Yep Mondays are busy as hell for me, with midterms, extra travel for work and the usual business of track and other classes, so I'm beat. I haven't been able to follow any real news today, but I did use the Western Union online site, wasn't too bad, and it's pretty secure. Even when I sent money online to a friend in Uganda I had to call in and confirm it to a REAL person, very nice.

Also Art Lebdev, the guys who are making that famous Optimus Keyboard with the OLED keys, have released a shot of their prototype, and it's real nice. I do have some problems with the $1299 estimate on the retail price, but we'll see how it goes when it's introduced later this year.

TV Time - NFL Draft

Since I'm bored and watching TV, I'm going to recount what I've watched for the last 30 mins, and since I'm a sports fan it's ESPN. Yep they talked a bit about the NFL Draft and nfl draft prospects like Brady Quinn or JaMarcus Russell, some highlights from all the final regular season games in the NBA, and other scores and highlights from the NHL. Also the True Life on MTV is decent for once, it's about addiction to Crystal Meth, crazy.

I have DSL at home in Canada and love it, it's fast, cheaper than cable and brings me great speeds and amazing reliability. If you're looking looking into getting High Speed Internet Access then I have to recommend DSL over Cable just due to price for comparable access with Cable. You'll see there's a big difference, and that could be huge for your budget. This site on broadband has great info and descriptions to help you make your purchase but go with me, pick DSL.

Rant about online music

Tonight I'm going to take it on a different course as I sit here listening to music on my computer and all this talk about digitally purchased music vs traditional store bought material vs illegally downloaded songs. I'm listening to the tracks on my computer, and I realize that nearly 90% I've never purchased, probably even more, yet there's a song that I have and that I own, which made me think.

Am I wrong for all this music? Back in the day everyone had tapes and recordings, and now it's digital so everyone has CD's and MP3's. But for one it's a) Way too easy to get all this music and b) I wouldn't be listening to most of this stuff anyways if it weren't free. So that leaves the RIAA in a problem about revenue, since there are millions like me right now. People like me won't buy music, so how are they going to get revenue from all the people with collections like me? Are they going to tax or charge the digital players such as iPods and etc? Or are they going to get money from advertising or other means? Any other way they can monetize this where someone like me would feel like I'm getting my money's worth?

Hey since I've spoken about some online file storage before (see Monday and see my post on box.net) but it seems like the guys at ExtremeTech.com have it all down. They did a review of Six Free Online Storage Sites and they liked a couple of sites. Box.net was commended for it's easy to use interface and the widgets that they provide for intergration into blogs, myspace, etc. Others received nods for easy of use or their no frills approach. Overall it's a great review and a good read for anyone trying to stick a bunch of things online.

Busy day - Free Uploading site

Mondays are crap for me, since I generally have practice, work, practice then class, so I'm not able to write much for you guys. So instead of leaving you guys with nothing today, I'll leave you with this site I found over the weekend.

Files-Upload.com is the best free file uploading site I've seen out these. Sure rapidshare might be free and easy but Files-Upload has 300mb files or 1gb files via FTP with registration, that's pretty sweet. Great for uploading a large video or some large multimedia presentations, or a 100mb of pictures like my friends coming down to New York. Anyone tried this site out yet? What you guys use for online storage? Discuss

Interesting news about MP3 licensing, potential headaches for consumers

Was just reading Wired earlier tonight while cleaning up the room, and they had a pretty lengthy piece on MP3 licensing and the verdict against Microsoft that occurred this week. It wasn't in the mainstream press because it wasn't directly against Microsoft, but it was Alcatel-Lucent asserting that they hold the patent for MP3's along with the original patent holder. What does that mean for us? A couple of things

1) If Microsoft loses the appeals, it's going to have to pay a lot of cash for continued MP3 use and will likely abandon the format.
2) Another codec is going to take it's place, and right now the 3 front-runners are AAC, WMA and Ogg-Vorbis
3) Many audio players and companies dealing with MP3's are going to have to pay another license to Alcatel-Lucent, and they're going to be in trouble judging by Microsoft's amount.

This is good for the opponents of MP3, but I feel it's generally bad for us. Dam patents, oh well it seems everything's in the air for now but don't say I didn't warn you when we're forced to move off MP3 to another format. You guys can read the full article at Wired.com.

So Payperpost has some more BIG news coming

Payperpost, our good friends over in Orlando, Florida, have started telling the intranets that there's some big news coming. Skeptical, I am, but when Payperpost starts letting us know something, all of us posties have to be attentive. Hopefully it'll be something nice for us, here's a little list of things that could be nice:

1)Paid vacations for the posties
2)Free trips to PostieCon'07 (Room, Board and excuse letters to my boss)
3)The ability for posties to buy shares in the company

Yea I'm sure those won't fly, but they would be awesome. Here's my guesses for real rumours that might be actually true is that either:

a) Payperpost has acquired another smaller company (which has happened before)

b) Payperpost has gone cash flow positive

c) A big advertiser signs on for Payperpost (Fortune 500 company)

d) A network picks up RockStartup and puts it on television

If you look at the these rumors, people familiar with Payperpost might actually think these are either very plausible or happened before. Payperpost has a deal with HP and signing up another big company could be a huge boost for the web 2.0 startup. As well picking up another smaller company to boost it's profile or enable Payperpost to access new markets could be in order, since it tried to do that with Performancing.com. The cash flow positive might be premature right now, since it's only been 6 months since they had their venture fund financing. Lastly, Rockstartup, the web reality TV show started by PayPerPost getting picked up by a smaller network (something on Cable) could happen and would bring the message of Payperpost to millions of people. Who knows it could happen.

Those are my guesses for the big news, I'm probably way off but it's fun to guess.

I know I've been slacking on my posting, I'm sorry, but I've had some track meets (posted on the Sports Blog) and real life unexpectedly come in the way. Yesterday I had to help the kids so I was unfortunately unable to post some news for you guys. It's been slow, no major announcements, no big deals, so I haven't had that much to rush here, however, this next piece might spike your interests.

Bestbuy, yep the store with the big yellow tags, is having a $1.99 video game clearance tomorrow on many games, yes you heard me, $1.99. It's only going to be on Monday so you gotta act quick. Someone on the IGN Forums posted the complete list, which I got off Digg, so if you see anything you like, go for it.

Looking for online games to kill time at work? Try Cafe.com

I know there's a ton of free flash sites with a bunch of free random games out there. Sure they may be free but they're not the greatest nor are they always fun. Well the guys at Cafe.com have launched a platform just to change that. Instead of the regular type of site like this the premise at Cafe.com is that they're going to make the games social, by playing with a community, with avatars and etc. They're going to have a coin based economy for their premium games, where you can either earn coins, you get 500 to start up with, or buy coins to earn power ups and things in those premium games. I'm sure there's a time when you'd pay a dollar to get that item you needed.

I like the direction these guys are headed with this concept, since it allows you to be more interactive than your basic free games. Java and flash games may be nice, but I think having a multiplayer platform for these games will be the way to go. I already enjoy playing games on Windows Live Messenger with my contacts, and this is the next step. Not everyone has the time to sit down with their PS2, Xbox360 or their PC and play the latest gen and have all the multiplayer goodness that comes with those games so this seems like a good way to let everyone enjoy it. They're in beta so things are looking up, so give them a shot and let me know.

Speaking of VoIP, Skype wants to be used on wireless networks

Interesting news all over the internet today about Skype asking the FCC to open up wireless networks. Pretty interesting news since it was to force the cell phone providers and allow other applications on their networks. The users, us, pay for "unlimited" bandwith yet they restrict many applications like Skype, since Skype would destroy their usage minutes by using cheaper VoIP minutes. I'm all for it, since I'd rather pay for good Data on the go, but wonder what you think? Is opening up the networks good? or is this just going to cost us in the end as usual?

Who here doesn't love Wifi and VoIP

Even through the internet has only been mainstream for around 10 years, the technologies that it has sprung have been amazing. Things like Wifi and Video Conferencing have been instrumental in keeping people and businesses connected around the world, and now another technology that I have has become mainstream. VOIP is here, and it's here to stay. There's companies that offer you Voice over IP telephone service, like Vonage, there's companies that allow you to talk over the internet for free like Skype, and then there's even products that allow you to combine both like Cisco's iPhone, which has the same name as Apple's product but is completely different. Ciso has been a pioneer in providing VOIP technology since it provides a lot of equipment and jumpers that allow the internet to work already, so having a lot of expertise in VoIP is natural for them. USB LCD Monitors and top 10 Gmail tips

Yep, as per usual, stuck at the library on a Wednesday night. Nothing good happening online right now, but there's a couple of sites of interest for you guys.

1) There's a list of Top 10 Gmail Tips and Hacks at the Download Squad blog. Pretty interesting tips for the powerusers out there. Most of these tips don't apply to 90% of the people who use Gmail, but for those who are on it 24/7, they can help you out a lot, so enjoy.

2) Samsung's releasing a USB monitor at CeBit this year, and of course my friends at Engadget have the scoop via PC World. IT'll be interesting for those with laptops without dedicated VGA outputs or DVI or both but I wonder how much processing power that these computers will need to put everything onto USB.

This is actually something useful and nice for those with myspace profiles or blogs and you want to share some files, pictures, music quick and easily. It's a widget, which is a small application that's loaded with a page or a program, like the widgets for blogger, from Box.net that allows you to display files to download on your blog. The Box.net Widget is free and can host up to a 1gb of your files, pretty amazing isn't it. I haven't finished setting up my widget, but here's one from their site to show it off.

Mini-Guide to replacing the LCD on your laptop

Hey, just reading around the usual sites, and other than another video card release, the ATi Radeon X1950 GT, which is a nice midrange card at an MSRP of $180, there wasn't much that interested me today, again.

However, there's a nice mini-guide on replacing your LCD screen on your laptop, something that's pretty expensive and worth it if you have a giant crack in yours. It's from the DefectiveKit.com Blog, and it's a quick and easy guide, very simple. Should be a good place to start up if you want to look into doing this repair yourself.

Who here hasn't seen RockStartUp yet?

Most of you guys know of Payperpost through my blog, I've done some work for them and find them to be an awesome company. They really look out for their posties and they fun, young and creative. One of their crazy ideas was to film a documentary on the startup of their show called RockStartup. It's an online reality show that's filmed in HDTV/ipod formats, put on YouTube, etc, that chronicles the startup of the Payperpost company through Ted Murphy, the president/CEO and the rest of the crew at PPP. His persona in the show is the Murphman, and he's a funny guy, from throwing up eating pizza to participating in the Postie Patrols it's great. I've loved the show because it's a good mix of showing behind the scenes at Payperpost along with the fun and side stuff going on, such as the toy drive, Vegas and the reverse postie patrols. I don't know if there's an episode that's my favorite, but I like how Episode 6 goes, showing the ups and downs.

Nothing good today, so here's a Hello Kitty blanket

Been a pretty busy day for me, so whenever I checked out the Tech News sites and my other sources of news I didn't get much to talk about. Here's 2 things that were eventful.

1) AMD released a new CPU, the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+. It steps up their processor line and it's good for them to at least come close to Intel. It does lose out to the Core 2 Duo E6700, but it's not too far off. Hothardware.com has the full review.

2)I did however see this usb-powered Hello Kitty Blanket at Engadget. It's amazing how much Hello Kitty stuff there is. My ex-girlfriend would go nuts for this crap, but here's a picture.

Online UK Classifieds

I know that most people look at Craigslist in New York City for their classifieds, just due to the sheer volume of people and apartments it's a giant listing, but that's not always the case everywhere around the world. Take for example the United Kingdom, where outside London things are scarce for online classifieds, and a place called Itsmymarket is hoping to fill the void. They look pretty promising in the classifieds but also have other features such as a community and blogs among other things. I'm impressed, this combines a lot of features found in separate sites in one place, which is good for my friends in England.

This is really one of the reasons why they're the pioneers in blog marketing and continue to lead the pack in that regard, which they got an AlwaysOn Top 100 award.

This time they're brining a new feature called Review My Post. It's a program where every time someone signs up on Payperpost they can review a post on my blog, and they can get paid for it and you get referral money for it. You earn traffic and profit, a sure fire way to get more visitors and earn a bit of money on the side while doing it. It's great for all the bloggers who don't feel like doing sponsored posts on products or services. All it takes is a simple badge at the end of their post, nothing ridiculous or a whole bunch of links everywhere.

I'm going to start giving it a shot, since it's new and maybe I'll earn something through it. I'll let you know what I think about it, but until then, you can always click on the big button on the side :)

9 HP Company Secrets via The Consumerist

I don't hate HP, but I just love the stuff you see coming out of former employee's when they leave their jobs. There's a pretty interesting interview with a former CSR at HP, and he goes over 9 company secrets/things they don't want you to know about over at The Consumerist. There's even a quote about Canada being not worth the marketing effort, that's always great, since HP's got a nice office in Montreal.

Here's the most interesting quote

9: In training our trainer said that if it takes longer than 30 minutes to troubleshoot (low end printer) we are then costing HP money and should just replace it.

So if the average retail of a printer is 70-80$ then the cost to hp should be half so that means that these CSR's make around 15-20 an hour, not too shabby, but interesting that they would just replace it instead of trying to fix it with the customer.

Payperpost's Segmentation System for Advertisers and Bloggers, help everyone get paid!

Payperpost has unveiled their new segmentation system for blogs and post over the last week, and even if there was some software errors that prevented many bloggers from taking many of these opportunities for their blogs over the last week, it's a step in the right directions. Now many blogs can't just take opps that don't suit their blogs very well (I enjoy Valentine's Day though) however a tech blog doing posts on Flowers all the time don't make sense. That's why since advertisers now have the choice to specific exactly what blogs, what domains, etc, have the ability to take certain opps. Sure some people may lose out on some of these opportunities, but it's get for the advertisers to target a relevant audience at a great cost.

Payperpost allows bloggers to get paid to blog as most of us know, but now it's a simple decision for Advertisers since it's only costs them a 35% service fee, unlike many other blog advertising services where the fee is 100% of the opportunity. That's great for bloggers since they get more $$ and cheaper for advertisers as well, we all win in this situation. I'm starting to love Paypal again

Normally whenever me or my mother have had to transfer money between each other I use to have to put it into my bank account, then transfer it to my Credit card to use it. But with Paypal I can add my Canadian bank account, my mother's bank account, and tie it all up with my US account so that I can move money wherever I want pretty easily. I was mad at them for their fraud policy but there's not much they can do so I'm going to let them slide for now.

You guys like Paypal? Used Google Checkout or other services? How they compare? Discuss,

I know I've mentioned the great cards at Egreetings.com but I know there's a couple of you out there who forgot about Valentine's Day and didn't send or call some people in your life to wish them happy Valentine's Day but there's always these free funny eCards from Egreetings just in case you forget. New old toy - Steve bought another PS2

Sorry for the missed day yesterday, it was a busy day in my personal life but I managed to pick up a couple of things I wanted, including a used slim Playstation 2 and the movie The Departed. That movie looks impressive with Matt Damon and co. I have to watch it tonight before I give it back to my friend, lol, since he gave me the money to buy it.

As for the PS2, I had been meaning to get one since I sold my old one this summer after receiving a couple PS2 games for Christmas and since I decided against getting a Playstation 3 anytime soon. There's no compelling reason to get one. Any game I want to play right now, FFXII, God Of War 2, etc are all on Playstation 2, and if I get a next-gen console, it'll be an Xbox360.

Nothing too interesting so far today in tech news, I've been stuck at work/track all day, which I'll talk about on my other blog, but I'll put something more interesting for you guys later.
