Mini-Guide to replacing the LCD on your laptop
Wednesday, February 21, 2007
Hey, just reading around the usual sites, and other than another video card release, the ATi Radeon X1950 GT, which is a nice midrange card at an MSRP of $180, there wasn't much that interested me today, again.
However, there's a nice mini-guide on replacing your LCD screen on your laptop, something that's pretty expensive and worth it if you have a giant crack in yours. It's from the DefectiveKit.com Blog, and it's a quick and easy guide, very simple. Should be a good place to start up if you want to look into doing this repair yourself.
As per usual, more later,

Nothing good today, so here's a Hello Kitty blanket
Tuesday, February 20, 2007
Been a pretty busy day for me, so whenever I checked out the Tech News sites and my other sources of news I didn't get much to talk about. Here's 2 things that were eventful.
1) AMD released a new CPU, the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+. It steps up their processor line and it's good for them to at least come close to Intel. It does lose out to the Core 2 Duo E6700, but it's not too far off. Hothardware.com has the full review.
2)I did however see this usb-powered Hello Kitty Blanket at Engadget. It's amazing how much Hello Kitty stuff there is. My ex-girlfriend would go nuts for this crap, but here's a picture.
Enjoy the warmth!

DoJ subpoena's AMD and nVidia over graphic card price fixing
Saturday, December 02, 2006
Pretty interesting post out of the NY times online edition (it's rounding the major tech news sites as well) where they've said that the Department of Justice has subpoenaed AMD (who bought ATi) and nVidia. They haven't made any allegations but I'm sure something's going to pop up. What you think's going to happen. I always thought high-end cards were priced a little high for me but maybe the DoJ sees the competiting price points as anti-competition or something.
Anyways here's the NY Times article HERE and another from TechNewsWorld HERE. You bought a graphics card recently? You think the price was fair? Post your thoughts!

Stuck at work...Quad-Core Discussion
Thursday, November 02, 2006
Yep so it's one of my long Thursdays at the library so I'm just surfing tech sites and reading reviews of the new Intel Quad-Core "Kentsfield" where there's 20 reviews on the same pre-release stuff. Oh yea my buddy Chris came by, he's another tech guy, loves buying new gadgets and he's a really nice guy too. Works on the 5th floor of the LLC building (I'm on the 3rd floor.) We were talking about do we really need a Quad-Core system? After 2 cores is there really going to be a need for 4, 8, etc. Are our CPU's that seem to be fine doing single-threaded or multi-threaded apps going to substancially be better with the huge increase in numbers of cores per CPU. I've been holding off buying a multi-core system until the apps have really supported it. He has a brand new Core 2 Duo laptop and he loves it, so we're on both sides of the fence. I'll wait for AMD's response to Kentsfield to see what's up, and I need to save money anyways so it gives me another excuses.
Alright back to work, more later
